Every Child is an Artist -Pablo Picasso
Every child is an artist by default and have a natural curiosity to explore how the world works. We just need to nurture their curiosity and inspire them to become creators.
Now how to inspire kids to become creator and a better version of themselves is what we are going to discuss in this post.
Well, the roles of nature and nurture go hand in hand to ignite the spark of creativity in your child, and since every child has a creative drive naturally, now it’s up to parents how they nurture it which results in him/her being a creator.
Below are some tips that can help you nurture your kid’s creativity:
Have Fewer Rules
Want your kids to be creative? A simple formula is, Have fewer rules. A dictated environment, where there are fewer opportunities for kids to experiment and explore is the actual creativity killer. While on the other hand flexible environment is what supports creativity.
You can help your kids develop creativity by allowing them to make decisions for themselves, appreciate their ideas and provide resources. Give them exposure by reading, watching and visiting places where they can learn more about the creators, innovators and hard workers. (Or listen to our Creators Podcast :)
They will develop problem-solving skills and strength to learn from their mistakes. Let them choose their passion to invest their creativity. In short, let them pursue their interests and ambitions in life.
You will find them more productive and confident with the freedom to make their own their own choices rather you forcing them to do a particular activity.
Introduce Them To Experts
Provide them with the opportunity to meet inspirational people in your friends and family, who work for their passion. Let them discover how it turns out to be when someone’s profession is their passion. This will help them know how someone made his/her success story possible. And it’s as simple as taking your child to visit someone’s home.
Familiarize yourself and kids with the Biographies of Some Famous People and their Expertise. Read biographies and watch documentaries or biopics together. Introduce them to the great leaders, Nobel Prize Winners, famous musicians and well-known athletes. Help your child see how these great people made their way to success!
Ensure Your Child's Interest is Flexible
Assist your child to expand their interest and how their interest can be applicable in real life. What are other dimensions they can make use of it? Let their interest not be boxed. Tell them the ways they can mold their interest in a wider spectrum.
Whenever they are interested in a specific thing, don’t limit them to just do that one thing. For example, your kid likes drawing. They don’t have to just draw on the paper. They can learn digital drawing, they can make their own comic books and they can paint on canvas to decorate the house. If the project can expand into real life, they can learn a lot more and create beyond one media. That way, they can be a better creator overall and ready to take any challenges that can also involve their interests.
Embrace the Mess, Allow Kids to Make Mistakes
Creativity blossoms out of the mess. Remember there is no one right answer to any question. Let your kids experiment in other ways. Allow making mistakes. Every time they slip they will get more energy to chase their dream. Creating can be messy but this mess is literally a place where creativity sprouts and your kid blooms.
Growth is an ongoing process. Develop a growth mindset. Keep your children updated with the technology. Don’t fear to give them access to gadgets. Keep in mind that your motivation is the fuel to your child’s creative drive.
