While raising a child, you will realize that you can make the child work better with words of encouragement. Criticism aided with guiding words on how to improve will also be helpful. Likewise, what do you do when the child reaches his goals? Anything you do in this regard is going to come back to you tenfold. Here, we discuss the goals for children you should set.
Discuss the Goal
Do they aim to get a new toy or a new sci-fi book for their collection? Discuss with them how they can reach that goal. Tell them a few options they can follow to reach the set goals. Challenge them with ways to make their own goals happen. Ensure to support them throughout the process of reaching the goal. Set a date by which they should achieve the target.
Hear them Out
They might have a better plan than you have. So, ask your child what he/she aims to do to get that book or toy. Do they plan to start a small lemonade stall? Do they want to sell small craft items that they make? Give them mathematics and let them see how to achieve their goal.
Make their Goal Visible
Ask them to write down, take a photo of their goal and put it on their study desk or the wall opposite their bed. This way, they will not lose track of achieving their goals and get the inspiration too. Always remember to place the goals somewhere visible around the house or even places that distracts them (E.g next to a computer or TV). This can be a reminder that they should work on their goals instead of watching a next movie.
Break their Goal into Smaller Milestones
At first, for a child, any goal will be a big one. So, what you can do for them is to make smaller milestones of their goal. Divide the amount to smaller portions as goals for the week. This way, at the end of four weeks, they will get a consolidated image of their goals. They have to learn how to make a goal happen with small steps, thus they won’t be frightened by the “impossible mission” which can cause discouragement and lack of action.
Appreciate them Well
Even if they reach only 40% of their goal in the set period, appreciate their efforts. This will decide on whether they will take up any further work or set their goals further.
As a responsible parent, you need to help in setting the goals for kids. They should learn to strive for their own goal to achieve it. Also, make them understand to work hard and smart for any obstacles that come their way and not give up. You can provide a starter pack for child entrepreneurs from Peach and Plum Labs to assist them in this process.
