5 Successful Kids Business Owners To Get Inspiration From

“Entrepreneurship is for adult.” Is this what you think, too? Then we are sorry to say, you belong to an old school. There are many, many success stories of the kid business owners who gave wings to their ideas, made money and created impact for the world.

Here is a spotlight on such amazing kid entrepreneurs - whom we all can learn a lesson from.

Sebastian Martinez, Are You Kidding?

Sebastian also known as “the Sock Kid” is a founder of a sock company. He was a kid who always loved receiving a pair of socks as a gift. At the age of five, he had 100 pairs of wacky socks. His love for kooky socks was growing with him. This turned into a business passion after his mother, Rachel Martinez, said, “Would you like to design your own socks?” This one sentence not only changed his life but also laid the foundation of Are You Kidding Socks company.

In fact, Sebastian, his brother Brandon and his mom Rachel Martinez have been featured on our Spark Creators podcast. If you want to know how they got started and all the ins and out of “Are You Kidding?” socks company, click the link below to give it a listen.

Also, I actually got a chance to visit Sebastian and his family back in 2016 when my friend Erica Swallow and I were creating the Entrepreneur Kid book series. Sebastian and his brother Brandon were featured on our 4 book series and we got to see their home (where they set up a basketball hoop in their backyard), their school and also went to their favorite restaurant.

Lily Born, Kangaroo Cups

Born's broke all the conventions related to inventions, she emphasized on the idea that an invention doesn’t have to be ground-breaking. It could be as simple as a plastic cup.

She noticed her grandfather, who often spilled his drink due to Parkinson‘s disease. She wanted to come up with the solution. She created a three-legged drinking cup with moulded plastic that didn’t tip. Later on, she developed a ceramic version of the cup.

After more and more modification, the original Kangaroo Cup is now the mainstay of her company.

Ryan Kelly, Ryan’s Barkery

Ryan's Barkery – a dog treat business now called Ry's Ruffery, was founded by Ryan Kelly at the age of 10. He was one of the youngest Kid Entrepreneur to ever appear on Shark Tank. He even got the investment of $25,000 from Shark Barbara Corcoran. He’s always had an entrepreneurial spirit. But once he found his right business idea, he plunged into it.

Mikaila Ulmer, BeeSweet Lemonade

Every business starts from a story and Mikaila's story started when she was 4 and got stung by a bee. She then was captivated by honeybees. As a result of a research assignment from school, she found out that the population of honeybees is dying. She decided to be a change maker and set out to create a business to save honeybees. Mikaila received $60,000 on Shark Tank to grow her business Me & the Bees Lemonade.

Moziah Bridges, Mo's Bows

Moziah Bridges is one of the most adorable kid entrepreneurs on Shark Tank. When he didn’t find any bow ties according to his taste and style standards. Just then he decided to come to the front seat. With the help of his mother and grandmother’s sewing skills and Mo's creativity he started designing his own bow-tie line. Today he is selling, more than $20,000, of his hand made bow-ties in stores across the US.

Also, Moziah was also featured on our Spark Creators podcast in our recent series - Style Up! Currently, he is in his last year of high school and ready to go to his next journey! He shared a lot of stories about himself while he was young and he also told us some great milestones he achieves in his business. If you want to get into more details of Moziah Bridges’ story, definitely don’t miss this episode.

A great lesson from these great kid entrepreneurs is, “if you don’t have the product you need, create one yourself.” Sometimes, even if you have the product, but you can make it better, go for it. Nobody is born an entrepreneur, entrepreneurs are made.
