15 Small business Ideas for Young Entrepreneurs

Kids as ‘Entrepreneurs’ can start early. In fact, you would be surprised to know there are ample of opportunities available for kids to start their own business ventures, that too at a young age.

However, in some cases they might need adult’s help or supervision. If you are looking into starting some sort of businesses, here are a few business ideas for kids that they as young entrepreneurs can get started with.

Selling soda

The easiest business that a kid can get started with is by selling soda. It could either be homemade lemonade, Tang, Mountain Dew, Cola or Smarties candy. You can easily start your own stand with a little help from an adult. That’s why lemonade stands are the most popular business ideas for a lot of young entrepreneurs to begin with. Just be sure about the location and time you chose when you sell them.

Kids’ Book Author

If you are creative and good with writing, you could write and put together your own kids’ book. If you are mainly the writer, then your parents can help you to find freelance illustrators on Fiverr or 99 Design. If you are talented in drawing and illustrating, then your parents can be the author and you will finish the illustration. Finish the creation first, then along with your parents help you have to find yourself a publisher or even self-publish the book online.

Tutoring Service Provider

Yes! Kids can also offer tutoring services to kids younger their age who need additional help with a subject or need help with their homework. If you are especially good at math, english or drawing for example, you can provide help to other kids and earn an hourly rate. Especially if you have proven records of your own performance, or even examples of other successful students, you can get a lot more credibility when reaching out to parents.

Candy Maker

Another great idea is kids creating a new type of candy to sell. Of course, they need an adult’s help and proper permits for this type of business. A good example is Zollipop, created by Alina Morse when she was 7 years old and with the help from her dad. You can look into how to make candy from home on Youtube, there are a lot of tutorials teaching you about the process too.

Baker

Kids can also sell their baked goods online, in local stores, school canteens and neighborhood. First, practise at home and share with family and friends. As your baking skills get better, try to sell it within the neighborhood. Later you can reach out to teachers and classmates from schools, local farmers markets and even local stores and events. Baking takes some skills and practise, so make sure to experience a lot before you sell.

Cake Decorator

Another great idea is kids offering cake decorating services to local bakers or those friends and family members who are hosting special events. You as a kid have the most creative ideas and you know what your peers want. So you can offer cake decorating service to kids birthday cakes for baby showers to make the most of your creativity. This also takes some practise to get better, so make sure try a lot at home to start with, so you have a “portfolio” you can showcase to local bakers or stores.

Selling Art and Craft

Selling art and craft can be a perfect idea for kids just getting into business ownership. Kids can purchase some supplies, decorate jewelry, or create cards, or paint T-shirts to sell online or at craft fairs. Especially if you loved creating anyways, this won’t feel it’s a business for you. It’s more like having fun! Just remember to keep your paper nice and clean, then later find a good frame to put your art in. Good presentation is a huge part of art, make sure you take some effort to make it very nice.

Language Class

If you grew up in a bilingual family, speaking two languages probably comes very natural to you. But for other kids who grow up in English only families, they may want to learn another language. Especially if you guys are in a similar age, you can find a lot of common things you can talk about using another language. Just prepare and teach the basic things you know, use everyday language and phrases to practise with your students. If your students can learn 50% of what you know, their parents will probably be very happy about the results already.

Elderly Care Provider

Kids can easily serve as an elderly care provider. While kids can’t offer medical or primary caretaker services, however, you can offer running errands or do chores around the house for elderly people who have difficulty moving around the house and need a helping hand.

While kids can’t provide medical care or serve as a primary caregiver, you can offer services to seniors who need help with errands or chores around the house, or those who just want some extra company.

Gift Basket Deliverer

Kids can also create their own gift baskets and sell them, or provide a service that delivers different gift baskets for different occasions to the customers. You can be creative when it comes to making your own gift baskets. Come up with something you don’t usually see in the grocery store. Make baskets fit for different ages or occasions. Sell them locally first and see how many people would buy. Then think about selling online since you can reach a bigger market if you can open your product to people across the nation.

Lawn Care Provider

Kids can easily start their own lawn mowing service for the people in their neighborhood. Especially in the summer when the lawn is growing crazy, people have to mow the lawn almost every other day. A lot of people don’t have such time or energy to do so. You can offer help with a simple hourly rate to your neighbors, or even be more professional and create business cards, websites to advertise it to people who are further.

Gardener

You can also help people maintain their gardens. This goes hand in hand with lawn care services. So, on top of the mowing services, you can offer watering and basic outdoor maintenance services for your neighbors. If you know a lot about flowers or different plants, you may have a great time taking care of them. Some neighbors grow their own fruits or vegetables, if there is a need you can also offer to pick them in return with some organic fruits and veggies.

Soap Maker

Soap making is another great business idea for kids. These days, many people prefer buying soaps with organic ingredients than buying commercially made soaps with chemicals. Hence, kids can easily produce soap and sell themselves.

Computer Setup Provider

If you have some tech knowledge, you can easily offer adults their software and windows installation services. You can even offer to get customers’ computers or other devices set up after buying them. I know, you grew up with technology so it is very easy for you. But you may be surprised how many people have such a need especially for the elder generations. You can even provide specific App or Game installation for your peers if there is such need.

Voice Artist

As a kid you can be a voice artist for business that caters to kids friendly products. In fact, when I just started Spark Creators podcast, I have young co-hosts to interview guests with me. I really loved the energy and their voice because it brings a lot of connection to our young listeners. If you are good at telling stories, or especially likes to talk or make up different voices, this might really be something you want to give it a try.
